Adair Scores Well on Open Records Compliance

Last October, journalists and volunteers in nearly every county in Kentucky took part in an audit of public offices to see how well they complied with requests for information under Kentucky's open records law. Adair County fared well in the audit, with 2 of 3 offices providing information easily.

  • City Budget: provided as asked
  • County Judge-Executive's travel expenses: provided as asked
  • Jail Logs: Not Provided
  • Superintendent's Compensation Package: Not Applicable (office closed day of audit, or information otherwise unavailable)
Although the jail did not provide logs, it appears that there might have been some ambiguity in the requests for jail logs that could have hindered access, as far more jails across the state refused access to their logs than provided them as requested.

More information is available in an extensive article in this Thursday's Courier-Journal, and information about the audit was also available in the November 2004 issue of The Kentucky Press (available as a PDF via this link).
