Poetry by Robert Stone: Shadow faults where none should be

Shadow faults where none should be: a word list sonnet for Poetry in the Boro
Four days ago I had a wisdom tooth
extracted, prologue to more dental work,
a reckoning for sad but simple truth
I am a runaway a hygiene shirk.

From sovereign succulents to frosty scoops
I chew the solids and I slurp the soft,
a juxtaposing hearty meats with soups,
forgetting chasing mouth debris too oft.

My dentist says it is a groundhog day
and he sees shadow faults where none should be
a clutch of boney structures with decay
just what I wish with which to not agree.

To think of brushing while the dentist drills
suffices not to upgrade cleansing skills.
