FSA NEWS: Sign-up Deadline January 13 for Ewe Lamb Program

Late filed provisions will not apply

Adair County Farm Service Agency

December 30, 2004. The sign up deadline for applying for benefits under the Ewe Lamb Replacement and Retention Payment Program (ELRRPP) has just been announced. All applications for payment must be filed and received in county FSA offices by close of business January 13, 2005. Late filed provisions will not apply.

The Program makes available $18 million to encourage the replacement and retention of ewe lamb breeding stock during the period from August 1, 2003 through July 31, 2004. Sheep and lamb operations have decreased production and flock size in recent years in response to long term unfavorable market conditions, increased imports, and extended drought in some areas.

Eligible lambs must have been purchased or retained for breeding purposes during the August 1, 2003 through July 31, 2004 period and must be retained in the flock through at least one complete lambing cycle. Payments can not be made for lambs that received funding under the USDA Lamb Meat Adjustment Assistance Program.

Payments, although subject to factoring, will be $ 18 per ewe lamb determined eligible for payment. Additional information is available on USDA web site

The USDA effort to serve Americas minority farm owners, farmers, ranchers, tenants, and others with agricultural interest has led to the development of a Minority Farm Register. The Register will serve as a tool to promote equal access to programs offered through USDA. Participation in the register is voluntary but encouraged. Information provided by the participant will be shared with other USDA approved outreach partners such as community based organizations, educational institutions, and other government agencies. Participation requires only your name, address, signature, and date.

This is an excellent time to complete 2005 DCP contacts prior to the rush that is sure to accompany the Tobacco Buyout application. Producers can elect to receive 50% of the direct payment for corn, soybeans, and other commodities in advance.

Commodity loans provide an excellent opportunity for producers to hold title to the 2004 crop and look at pricing for next spring and summer. Loan proceeds are available upon loan approval. Both farm stored and warehouse stored loans are available. Warehouse stored loans must be stored in warehouses that have qualified by filing a Uniform Grain and Rice Storage Agreement.

A listing of approved warehouses is available at your local FSA office.
Contact your local FSA office for additional information, they will be happy to assist you.
