LWC Swimming prepares for MSC Championships

By Kyrin Mayfield

After going 3-0 in January, the Lindsey Wilson men and women's swimming teams hope to ride the momentum into the Mid-South Conference Championships this Thursday through Saturday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. No spectators will be allowed in the venue during the championship. However, live video is available for all sessions.

On the men's side, nine teams are competing at the meet including four that received votes in the latest NAIA Top-10 Coaches' Poll in No. 2 Cumberlands (Ky.), RV Lindsey Wilson, RV Loyola (La.), and RV Life (Ga.). Bethel (Tenn.), Campbellsville (Ky.), Martin Methodist (Tenn.), Midway (Ky.), and Shawnee State (Ohio) are also attending.

For the women, the field is just as competitive with four competing programs earning votes in the Coaches' Poll in No. 2 Campbellsville, No.3 Indiana Wesleyan, No.10 Life, and RV Lindsey Wilson. Bethel, Campbellsville, Martin Methodist, Midway, Shawnee State, and Thomas More (Ky.) will participate as well.

Action begins at 7:30amCT on Thursday and Friday with preliminary heats. The first finals of each day are scheduled for 5:30pmCT. Saturday's timetable is similar with prelims starting at the same time but finals commence at 4:30pmCT.

Last season, the men's team swam to a second-place finish at the MSC Championships behind Cumberlands. Tyler King, James de Goede, Ron Wolfart, Reece Kincaid, and Calvin Coetzee earned First Team All-MSC honors while Will Thilwind and Bryce Rice received Second Team All-MSC accolades.

The women's team placed fourth last year. Jessica Macdonald was the lone Blue Raider to achieve All-MSC honors, earning a spot on both First and Second Teams. Cumberlands won for the sixth year in a row.
