Adair unemployment picture improves Metcalfe's unemployment rate best in state; Amazon.com effect centered on Taylor County Adair County's unemployment dropped from 3.7 to 3.4 percent from October 2004 to November 2004. The rosier picture appears to positively affected by seasonal employment, particularly at Amazon.com in Campbellsville, KY. The biggest drop in unemployment, 2 per centage points, was recorded in Taylor County. The 2.3 per cent unemployment in neighboring Metcalfe County was not only the area's best, but was the best in the Commonwealth. The Adair County rate is well below the statewide rate of 4.2% for the last reporting period, and was really strong when compared to the 5.2% national unemployment rate, which was up .1 of one per cent for the reporting period. For Adair County, employment was 7,441 working, out of a civilian labor force of 7,7,702. Both figures are increases over the same period in October. (Dec. 22, 2004) - Unemployment rates dropped in 108 Kentuckycounties between November 2003 and November 2004 and rose in 12 counties,according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training in the EducationCabinet. In November 2004, two counties had jobless rates at or above 10percent, and five counties recorded double-digit rates in November 2003.Metcalfe County's 2.3 percent jobless rate was the lowest in thecommonwealth. Other low rates were recorded in Oldham County, 2.5 percent;Marion County, 2.6 percent; Fayette County, 2.7 percent; Barren, Franklin,Jessamine and Monroe counties, 2.8 percent each; and Shelby and Warrencounties, 2.9 percent each. Elliott County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate - 11.1percent. It was followed by Magoffin County, 10.9 percent; Lewis County, 9.4percent; Nicholas County, 9.3 percent; Carter County, 8.6 percent; MorganCounty, 7.5 percent; McCreary and Wolfe counties, 7.4 percent each; AllenCounty, 7.2 percent; and Grayson County, 7 percent. Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled tomeasure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian laborforce statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians whoare actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians whohave not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
