City Council gives Pat Bell majority vote for Mayor Pat Bell was elected Mayor at the regular Columbia City Council meeting Monday night. The vote was necessary because of the vacancy created by the resignation of Mayor Curtis Hardwick. Voting for Mr. Bell were: Larry Marshall, Charles Grimsley, Joe Feese and Louise Hutchison. Council member Hutchison presided as Mayor Pro-tem. An earlier nomination of fellow-council member Jimmy Harper by Council member Joe Moore failed to receive a second. The selection of the new Mayor was the only item on the meeting agenda. The Council adjourned after the vote. The new Mayor was not present for the meeting which was attended by an overflow crowd.
