Letter: Montpelier Post Office and General Store

Larry Jones writes:
I was taken there by my Grandfather in the early 60's and I remember Miss Willie sitting in the back of the store by the stove talking to some locals and then going in the side room to do her Postmaster duties. It was a simpler time and so many times have wished I had went back after moving away... I drove by there some 60 years after moving... So happy to see it still standing.
Comments re: The Old Montpelier Store and Post Office

Larry, thanks for writing. Unfortunately, that photo is a few years old, and in April of this year, the decision was made that the old store would have to be torn down. Frequent contributor JIM eloquently expressed what many were thinking at the time: Montpelier Post Office & General Store building.

Luckily for those wanting a trip down Memory Lane, Google's mapping cars haven't made a pass through Montpelier since 2014, preserving this view of the old store as it was, at least for the time being.

This beautiful graying home is one of the older buildings still standing in Montpelier today. The flaming yellow maple tree brings attention to it this fall. Location is at the top of the hill opposite where the store once stood.
