Day two on GRL in the 2020 CUSA fishing tournament Visitors are invited to click on the Columbia Magazine Guide to Adair County for unique places to visit while in town for the Crappie USA Classic. By Linda Waggener Saturday morning, October 24, 2020 -- The 2020 Crappie USA (CUSA) Classic is ready for day two on Green River Lake with local and traveling anglers vying for a prize of $125,000 to be given away this afternoon. Evan Waggener, my grandson and personal fishing guide, said as you sit in the boat in the morning mist, waiting to begin, "It’s very frustrating usually, no matter if there’s a little fog or a wall so thick you can’t see the boats right next to you, watching the time for fishing drift away." "It begins to be calming," he said, "to watch the sun peek through clouds and the wind eventually take the fog off the lake." He said tournaments use a number system to start the action, it can be from 1-200 and they count off. I'd wondered if there was a starting gun like at the Derby but that would scare the heck out of the fish and drive them to the bottom of the lake! Even with a possible 150 boats, tournament participant David Jones said the 8,200 acre Green River Lake was not over crowded on the first day of fishing. Certain areas of the lake are not productive for fishing, so each one had already planned their spot. Activities began Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Holmes Bend Marina. Anglers were given the rules, and their weigh-in vouchers. Fishing time began at 6:30amCT Friday and today they start their final day. At 3pmCT fishing ends and they have to be in the weigh-in line by 4pmCT. Click on the Columbia Magazine Guide to Adair County for unique places to visit while in town.
