2004 Columbia City Council Forum at Slider Thursday night The public is invited to attend the 2004 Columbia City Council Forum, hosted by the Columbia Rotary Club, will be start at 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening, October 21, 2004, in the Slider Recital Hall, Room 202, on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College. Mr. Burris said that he does expect the topic, Who will the Council name as Mayor? to be discussed. The City Council is scheduled to name a Mayor to fill out the unexpired term of Mayor Curtis Hardwick, whose resignation was effective October 17, 2004. Senior Council member Louise Hutchison is serving as Mayor Pro Tem until the new Mayor is named. Ben Burris, a former Ciity Councilman himself, will be the moderator. In a letter to the candidates, Burris said, " I want to assure you I will be nonbiased, nonpartisan, and equal in consideration to all candidates." In his letter, Mr. Burris outlined the following conditions for the forum:
He told the candidates, "Because we cannot cover all issues, we highly encourage you to stay after the forum and meet with members of the audience to campaign and answer any questions they have. Refreshments will be served during this time. Feel free to bring any campaign materials you like. They may be distributed freely after the forum." Candidates invited to submit written statements Burris told the candidates, "Should you be unable to attend, you may submit a written statement to the moderator to be read at the opening of the forum. This letter should take, on average, about two minutes to read. No other individual may represent you at this event." This story was posted on 2004-10-20 22:44:29
