Pastor Joseph Payne is an active community volunteer

by Linda Waggener

Joseph Payne, a native of Adair County, is Pastor of Eunice Church of God for the past 14 years, and an active community volunteer. He is our Chamber of Commerce Board Member of the month.

In addition to his years of service to the Chamber of Commerce, he is also President of the Adair County Ministerial Assoc, Ky ASAP, Adair County Substance Abuse Coalition, Executive member of Lake Cumberland Area Development District, member of the Family Resource Center advisory Board, Adair County Drug Court and serves on the Board of The Old Homeplace at Green River.

"Joe" as friends call him, graduated from Adair County High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He has nine brothers and six sisters who live in various states. He is a veteran of the US Army and has traveled to several foreign countries. He and his wife of 23 years, Marjorie, have three "fine" sons: Jacob Payne who is a junior at Kentucky State University, Joshua Payne who is a freshman at Kentucky State University and Joseph Thomas Payne who is a middle school student at John Adair Intermediate School.

Pastor Payne led his congregation and members of the community to tear down the old Church and build a new modern church, large enough to seat 150 to 200 people in the year 2000. He says he wants to offer, "a special 'thank you' to Mr. Gerald and Iris Shepherd who put the building of their home on hold to build the church. Every volunteer, donation, gift and prayer will always be appreciated."

Pastor Payne says, "I am dedicated to the cause of Christ, spreading the good news of Jesus Christ and reaching lost souls." He is always willing to help those in the community who ask for his assistance concerning a problem or need they may have, regardless of their social status or church affiliation, he is always willing to help those in need.

Pastor Payne's motto is: "To God be the glory for the great things He has done!"
