William Luther Irvin, 87, U.S. Army Veteran Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Bear Wallow United Methodist Church for Luther Irvin who passed away August 14 at his home. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and visitation will begin there on Monday after 10:30 a.m. Luther was a Veteran of the United States Army who served from 1942 to 1945. He was a lifelong farmer, an avid gardener and was a big fan of Adair County Little League Baseball. He had been a member of Bear Wallow United Methodist Church since 1954. He was the son of the late David and Pert Burton Irvin and was preceded in death by his wife Mattie Curry in 1975. He is survived by:
He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister: Marshall, Ernest, Ed and Matthew Irvin, and Ida Cowan. Clergy officiating at the Tuesday afternoon service will be Rev. Cliff Burris and Rev. Troy Long. Interment will follow in Bear Wallow Cemetery with Military Honors by local VFW Post 6097. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorials be given to the Bearwallow Cemetery Fund or the Adair County Little League Baseball program (either of which can be left at the funeral home).
