Genevieve Baker, 97

Genevieve Baker, 97, of the Portland community of Adair County, KY, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Longview, Texas, after a brief illness.

The funeral service is Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Grissom Funeral Home, Columbia, KY, with burial to follow in Tarter's Chapel Cemetery.


She was the daugher of the late Charlie Frank and Myrtie Hunter Pyle.

She was the widow of D.R. "Demmon" Baker.

Mrs. Baker was a member of Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church and a member of the Portlandettes Homemakers Club.

She is survived by the following:
  • Three sons: Garnett Baker, Portland; Douglas and his wife Shirley Baker, Louisville; and Marion and his wife Karen Baker, Colorado Springs, CO
  • Three daughters: Geraldine and her husband Voris Whitlock, Greensburg, KY; June and her husband Charles White, Columbia, KY; and Marine and her husband D.J. Moore, Longview, TX
  • One sister: Ruth Smith, Milltown, KY
  • And 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Wilburn Reed Baker; a grandson, Steve Baker; two brothers, Ted and Grady "Bub" Pyle; daughter-in-law, Margaret Baker; and a son-in-law, James Bailey.

Grissom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
