KSP Captain Jeff Hancock negotiates end to all-night stand-off

KSP Captain Jeff Hancock negotiated a peaceful conclusion to a standoff with 42-year-old Thomas D. Lee, 625 Dotson Road (off Mack Willis Road off Hwy 55 South).

The standoff began Tuesday afternoon, July 6, when State Police at KSP Columbia Post 15 received an emergency protective order and a mental health petiton on Mr. Lee.

When units of the KSP attempted to serve the petition on Mr. Lee at around 2:40 p.m., July 6, Lee refused to come out of his residence or allow entry.

The Kentucky State Police Special Response Team was called in to assist, and Mr. Lee barricaded himself and a standoff ensued.

After lengthy negotiations, Captain Hancock convinced Mr. Lee to to come out of his residence and surrender to authorities without incident. Neither Mr. Lee nor any State Police were injured during the incident.

Mr. Lee was arrested at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, July 7, on the mental health petition.

While KSP units were at the scene, several hundred marijuana plants were found on the property owned by mr. Lee. The marijuana as well as several weapons were seized.

Mr. Lee was later charged with felony cultivation of marijuana and lodged in the Adair County Jail.
