Gradyville area Denny family connections sought Ron DeVore of Edmonton, KY, is looking to learn more about his family connections in Gradyville, especially around the time of the Gradyville Flood of 1907. From his research, Ron writes the following and includes photos. He hopes others will e-mail him if additinoal information is available. Charles Mitchell Denny was my maternal grandfather. Family records show he was born December 15, 1878. Perhaps in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. I believe he was known as C. L. or Mitchell Denny because I never heard my Grandmother Denny refer to him as Charles at any time. He died March 21, 1910 exactly three months before my mother Ruby Mitchell Denny was born on June 21, 1910. During his lifetime, Charles Mitchell Denny met, courted and married my grandmother Eugenia "Genie" Compton on December 20, 1899. Genie, as she was known, was two years younger, being born in 1880 to "old Pa" Peter Compton and Erma Keltner. This union was blessed with three children: Carl Denny, born September 16, 1904, (tragically, "Baby Carl" as my Grandmother always referred to him, died just short of his first birthday): My aunt, Stella Denny came along in Janurary of 1906. Baby stella was only seventeen months old the at time of the famous Gradyville flood, June 07, 1907. Of course, last but not least. my mother Ruby Mitchell Denny was born June 21, 1910. Mitchell Denny was a blacksmith by trade. He served his apprenticeship under one R. L. Caldwell from 1904 through 1906. My great grandfather Isaiah Denny was always referred to as " Izzie". My maternal great grandmother was Mary Jane Keltner. It is believed that Mary Jane Keltner was the daughter of William and Hattie Keltner who appear in the 1880 census listed as living in the Gradyville community. No additional information on her at this time. Maybe I will get lucky and someone will step foreward with some much appreciated connections.
