Adair native Carrie Grissom Montgomery dies in Louisiana

Carrie Grissom Montgomery, 98, Ragley, Louisiana, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in Louisiana.


A native of Adair County, KY, she was the daughter of the late M.l. and Rosa Grissom and lived most of her adult life in Columbia, KY, before moving to Cameron, Louisiana, to be with her daughter, Mary Eleanor, in 1974.

She was a gifted pianist. She graduated from the Louisville Conservatory of Music in 1925 and used her talent throughout her life in any area she was asked.

She played the organ and piano at Squyrea United Methodist Church until she retired from doing so at the age of 96. She continued to play until her death.

She was preceded in death by her children Donald Lee and Mary Eleanor.

She is survived by the following:
  • Eleven grandchildren: Sharon Pickett McKinney, Scottsville, KY; Patricia Austin Genotte, Broaddus, Texas; Bill Austin, St. Augustine, Fl; Teresa Pickett Henson, Louisville, KY; John Austin, Lawrenceville, GA; Pat Pickett Wheeler, Mt. Washington, KY; James Austin, Tahoe City, CA; Mary Beth Austin Henry, Ragley, LA; Donnie Pickett, Jamestown, KY; Richard Tutt, Cave City, KY; and Catherine Tutt Green, Columbia, KY
  • And 27 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service is Saturday, July 3, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at Squyrea United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Turnbull officiating.

Burial is in Sqyrea Risinger Memorial park in Ragley, LA.

Memorials are suggested to her church.
