Cameron Dukes named MSC Male Student-Athlete of the Year By Chris Wells Bowling Green, KY - Lindsey Wilson College's Cameron Dukes has been named the 2019-20 Mid-South Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Year, conference officials announced on Thursday. "Thank you to the selection committee for this prestigious honor," Dukes said. "Being named the Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the Mid-South Conference means more to me than people would ever understand because of how hard I work not only on the field but off of it. It's hard to put in words how grateful I am for all of my teammates, coaches, and teachers. Without them, I am not able to achieve such success." "The biggest influences in my life are my parents and I can't thank them enough," Dukes added. "They show me the importance of work ethic and being passionate in everything that I do. They believe in me and support me with every decision I make. I'm committed to the mindset I developed at an early age to give my all in everything I do to realize the value of my time and the time that people invest in me. Again, thank you." The annual award is presented to a graduating senior student-athlete and selected based on academic and athletic performances, leadership qualities, and their demonstration of the five core character values of the NAIA. The award is selected by the conference's eligibility committee and the administrative council. Community Trust Bank sponsors the Mid-South Conference Student-Athletes of the Year award. Dukes is the fourth Lindsey Wilson male to earn the honor and the third straight Blue Raider to receive the award. He is a 2020 physical education and health graduate. "Cameron is a team captain and has been elected to our team leadership council by his teammates on multiple occasions," Lindsey Wilson football coach Chris Oliver said. "He is an outstanding member of our campus community who has a positive impact on those around him, on and off the field. He has a great personality, and his positivity is infectious. "He also serves as a mentor and role model," Oliver added. "Cameron has spent a lot of time working with young quarterbacks in his hometown who he trains during his free time. He is everything we are looking for when I think of the ideal student-athlete." Dukes was named the 2019 Mid-South Conference Craig Mullins Bluegrass Division Offensive Player of the Year. He is a two-time all-conference performer and earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American last season. Dukes threw for over 3,300 yards last season with 35 touchdowns. He added 12 rushing touchdowns to his tally while helping the Blue Raiders to a divisional title and an undefeated regular season. "Cameron is an outstanding leader both vocally and through his actions on and off the field," Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler said. "He takes great pride in anything he does and is willing to work tirelessly to achieve his individual and team goals. I've heard several of his teammates speak openly and positively about his commitment to the team through the example he creates daily. These qualities, combined with his intellect and drive, make him a superior student-athlete." Dukes ranks third on the program's all-time list in passing yards (5,445), passing touchdowns (54), and second in completion percentage (60.8 percent) in three seasons. He set a single-game record last season with seven touchdown passes in a Blue Raider win. As a starter, Dukes boasts a 19-4 record, including helping the Blue Raiders reach the program's first-ever national semifinal in 2019. Academically, Dukes is a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Academic All Mid-South Conference performer. He volunteers at local elementary schools, reading and working with the youth as well as volunteering in the community. Dukes just completed his student-teaching in the spring. Dukes begins working on his masters of business administration this fall as he completes his final year of eligibility for the Blue Raiders. He hopes to continue his playing days professionally with plans to eventually coach at the collegiate level. "Congratulations to Cameron for receiving this well-deserved recognition," MSC Commissioner Eric Ward said. "He is an outstanding example and representative of the core values of Lindsey Wilson College and the Mid-South Conference.
