J.W. (Walon) Strange, 85 distinguished World War II Veteran

J.W. (Walon) Strange, born December 23, 1918, passed away at his residence May 20, 2004.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 23, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral will be Monday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.


He was a distinguished Veteran of World War II, having served in the 3rd Army under the command of General George Patton where he was awarded five Battle Stars.

He was a retired dairy farmer of nearly 40 years and a member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Sparksville.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alma Dillon Strange; three children, Judy (Glenn) Reeves, Glasgow; Carolyn Brockman of Louisville, and J.D. Strange of Pineville.

He had four grandchildren, Ron Reeves of Glasgow, Nancy Moore of Bowling Green; Beth Bentley of Chicago, and James David Strange of Pineville. He also had three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Efffie Gaston Strange, and a sister, Beatrice Keen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Antioch Cemetery Fund.
