Free leadership training offered to Adair

The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday at the Roberta Cranmer Dining Center at Lindsey Wilson College. Business of the day included the group's welcome of a new board member, followed by the presentation of a unique opportunity for Adair County from Brushy Fork Institute Appalachian Leadership and Development at Berea College.

Patricia Harper was added to the board to take the place of member Dwain Harris who has moved to Nashville. Patricia, an RN, in charge of Program Development at Family Home Health in Adair and Taylor Counties, said she was, "Proud to have the opportunity to serve."

The program presented by Jane Higgins, Program Associate of the Brushy Fork Institute, explained the outreach from Berea College offering Adair County an opportunity to recruit and train future leaders. From applications received (see form below) fifteen will be chosen who will attend the training programs in Berea to gain skills development in leadership and team work which they can bring back and put to work for their community.

Ms. Higgins explained, "working with both existing and emerging leaders, we draw on local understanding and vision to help communities build effective, visionary leadership for the common good."

Anyone may apply to attend the leadership training workshops in Berea and there is no fee. Forms may be picked up at the Chamber office on Burkesville Street, or by calling (859) 985-3858 or faxing (859) 985-3903. The form will ask you for the following information:

In the period between these two workshops, participants from each county will work on a community project in their county, requiring four to six hours per month.
