Rep. John Bam Carney back in Norton's Hospital ICU

Dr. John Chowning shares word from Mark Carney about his brother, Rep. John 'Bam' Carney

Late Tuesday evening April 28, 2020 update:

“Bam continues to be back in the ICU at Norton’s.

His blood continues to be a focal point as it was on Friday. Late Friday evening he was given two more units of blood then again last night he was given two more units due to low hemoglobin.

His surgeon was concerned yesterday about the possibility of more blood clots since they had taken him off of the blood thinner. He says he will be starting the blood thinner back this week but is concerned about bleeding again when they do that.

He says they are in a balancing act of trying to get the blood at the right level for him.

In the meantime, we learned today that some of the recent blood cultures are growing some bacteria so doctors have switched his antibiotics around. When they switch his meds he sometimes gets sleep deprived and a little confused. We experienced some of that with him today.

However, he did seem to get less confused as the day went along. In fact this afternoon he was able to use a cellphone himself and FaceTime us and that was exciting for us. Dr Phillips said that if they could get a better handle on his blood, that they would try to do a scope and find the fistula, which is basically a hole in the intestines, and repair it as it is still leaking and allowing infection into the body.

So tonight we again thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers and we ask you to specifically pray for the blood issues and for the hole in the intestines to be repaired. We also ask you to join us in praying for the doctors as they continue to make decisions and perform procedures. #God’sGloryOverBam #BounceBackBam”
