Reply to Larry Smith's Green River picture Comments re: Big Rock at Green River By George Rice When I first saw Larry Smith's picture of the big rock on Green River it caught my attention. Born and raised almost in the river at the scene of now Holmes Been Boat Dock, I have many cherished memories of the river before back waters covered our home and farm land. The Fisher Ford crossing upstream from the boat dock used to be a gathering place for Sunday afternoon swimming and picnicking. There was a long gravel bar the entire length of the hole of water that made a perfect place for get together. Down stream just a little way was a ferry that Joe Trayler moved here from the Cumberland River that farmers used to move their farm equipment across the river when the water was too high to cross. In my younger days (as old men always talk about, or when I was a boy, actually what else can old men talk about), I have traveled Green River all the way from downtown Liberty to the mouth of Russell Creek a distance below Greensburg. Yes Larry is correct to comment on the beauty to been seen on Green River. This story was posted on 2020-04-25 20:54:55
