Well-known oilman, World War II Veteran, Lester Moss, 81

Lester Moss, 81, 1084 Lampton Lane, Columbia, KY, pased away Monday, January 26, 2004, at 5:03 p.m., at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY, after several weeks illness.

He was a member of the Gradyville United Methodist Church and attended the Columbia Christian Church.

He was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He was a partner in C.R. Moss & Sons Oil Drilling and participated in oil exploration and production throughout Adair County and South Central Kentucky from 1969 until the late 1980's.

The funeral service is Thursday, January 29, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Terry White officiating.


He was the son of the late Clinton and Ivy Jessie Moss of Adair County, Kentucky.

He is survived by the following:
  • His wife: Sarah Cravens Moss, Columbia, KY
  • One daughter: Pat Vaughan and her husband, Jerry, Columbia, KY
  • Two grandchildren: Melanie Vaughan-Cook and her husband, Perry; and Jennifer Jenkins and her husband, Darren
  • One great grandchild: Isaac Cook.
  • One nephew: Bob Moss, Columbia, KY.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Moss, and one sister, Doris Breeding.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery at Gradyville, KY.

The family requests visitation afer 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Home, Columbia, KY.
