Darrell K. Thurman, 80, Burkesville, KY (1939-2020) Mr. Darrell K. Thurman of Burkesville passed away Monday, April 6, 2020, at his residence in Burkesville, Kentucky. He was 80 years old. As ordered by the Governor of Kentucky, and in accordance with the CDC guidelines, all services will be private, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Burial will be in the Rose of Sharon Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky. After the pandemic is over and it's safe to congregate again, the family will announce a memorial service at Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church. He was born in Clinton County, Kentucky on Friday, April 21, 1939 the son of Elmer Floyd and Willie Vestel (Carter) Thurman. He attended Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church, was a 1958 graduate of Cumberland County High School, a 1962 graduate of Western Kentucky University with an A.B., attained his Masters Degree from Western in 1966, and his Rank 1 teaching degree from Western in 1975.He was a Hospital Administrator for 2 years, and was a farmer. He was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, and the local Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a Brother-in-Law, Billy Wayne Cummings, nephew, Joel Wayne Cummings. He is survived by his siblings, Virginia Cummings of Burkesville, Kentucky, Val "Slick" (and Marsha) Thurman of Goshen, Kentucky, Donna Thurman of Burkesville, Kentucky, nieces, Lynn Rowell, Lee Ann Garrett, Marti Thurman, Mary Beth Onusko, great-nieces and nephews, Sara Rowell, Emily Cummings, Adam Garrett, Elizabeth Garrett, Tyler Thurman, Emily Thurman, special friends, Bonnie Riley, Jerry, Sherry and Kaitlyn Dunnigan. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Rose of Sharon Cemetery Fund or the cemetery of their choice. Norris-New Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all the arrangements.
