Well-known teacher, Edith Bryan Miller Spickard, 89 Edith Bryan Miller Spickard, 86, a lifetime resident of Crocus, KY, passed away Friday, January 2, 2004, at Main Line Nursing & Rehab Center in Malvern, PA. The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, KY, with Dr. Michael O'Neal officiating. She was a member of the Columbia Baptist Church. She taught in the Russell County School System for 10 years and at Lindsey Wilson College for 23 years. She was bestowed an Honorary Doctorate of Science, May 10, 2003. She was a member of the Russell County Chapter #432, Order of the Easter Star, Jamestown, KY, and of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was the daughter of the late Bryan S. and Laura Blair Miller and the widow of Marvin P. Spickard, who preceded her in death on May 2, 1997. Mrs. Spickard was the youngest of 10 children, all of whom she outlived. She is survived by one daughter, Shelia Frech, and grandchildren, Jessica Frech and Derek Michael Frech. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Columbia Baptist Churhc or Lindsey Wilson College. Pallbearers are Larry Antle, Bob Olt, Phillip Hadley, Terry Shively, Darrell Overstreet, and John Ballou. Interment will be in Miller Cemetery at Crocus.Visitation will be after 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
