Passenger dies in deer-car, deer-car accident just east of Russell Springs

Jennifer L. Lawson, 25, Russell Springs, died at 1:42 a.m. Sunday, December 7, 2003, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The death came as a result of f a deer-caused two-car accident 4 miles east of Russell Springs on Saturday, December 6, at 3:20 p.m.


The deer was first struck by a 1981 GMC driven by Jeffrey D. Stargel, 22, Rusell Springs, KY.

The deer then vaulted into the eastbound lane and went through the windshield of a 1999 Ford driven by Ms. Lawson.

The deer traveled through the vehicle and came half-way out the back glass. Ms. Lawson was flown to the UK Medical Center in Lexington.

A passenger riding with Ms. Lawson, Monica L. Johnson was not injured.

None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.

Mr. Stargel was cited for having no insurance and no operator's license.

The accident was worked by KSP Trooper Dewayne Holder of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY.
