The importance of slowing COVID-19

COVID-19 has been described as flu-like, and for most people, the flu ends up as a major inconvenience. But every year the flu can send tons of people to the hospital, too, which is why public health officials spend a considerable amount of time each year tracking the flu, testing for it, and educating the public on ways to prevent the spread of the flu, such as handwashing and vaccination.

It seems that a higher number of folks who contract COVID-19 can end up requiring medical care, and there are only so many doctors and hospitals in the state. There's a great graphic on a thespinoff, a New Zealand news site, that demonstrates the major benefit of paying attention to the spread of COVID-19 here in Kentucky. The more time that passes between cases, the less it stresses healthcare capacity:
