Letter: Watch out for Satellite Upgrade Scam

Maury Lewis writes:
I received a phone call from someone that said they were with Dish and Dish was changing satellites and they needed me to turn my TV on so they could see if my TV would work with the new satellite. I told them my TV was on and they said good don't hang up we will tell you when we are through, I said how do I know if this just isn't a scam and he got very nervous-sounding telling it wasn't a scam.

I hung up and called Dish and they said they had nothing like that it is a scam.
Maury, thanks for writing. We found reports of this occurring in Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, and Florida. A news story about this type of scam is here: daily-journal.com.
