LWC Wrestling finishes in 2nd at MSC Futures Championship

Bowling Green, KY - A portion of the Lindsey Wilson Wrestling team competed at the Mid-South Conference Futures Championship on Friday morning at the Ephram White Gymnasium.

The Blue Raiders took second place with 99.5 points as Campbellsville (KY) took first with 102 points.

Carlos Figueroa went a perfect 3-0 for his tournament as he rolled to victory with three straight pins in the heavyweight class. Figueroa first took down Alex Saint-Jean of Keiser (FL) in just 19 seconds before advancing to the championship when he pinned Hunter Hancock of Campbellsville (KY) at 6:11. He took first place when he pinned Grand Brace of Cumberlands (KY) in 30 seconds.



Zane Brown and Johnny Lee both competed in the 165-pound weight class and would square off in the finals after both won their first match. Brown took down Logan Smith of Campbellsville on a pin in 2:46 as Lee defeated Eric Beecham on a 20-5 technical fall. Brown pinned his teammate in the finals, doing so in just 1:24.

Rickey Garcia took second place in the 141-pound weight class with a 6-5 decision win over Marcus Abrue of Life (GA) before being pinned in the finals by Will Keeney of Campbellsville (KY).

Jonathan Bowling took down Eli Miller of Midway (KY) with a pin in 2:53 to advance to the finals where he took second after being pinned by Calieb Ray of Campbellsville (KY).

Austin Deffenbaugh took third place after posting a 3-1 record on the day. Deffenbaugh opened his day with a pin over Dante Cooper of Keiser (FL) in 6:58 before falling to the consolation bracket with a loss to Harold Gilmore of Cumberlands (KY). He then pinned Antonio Marisal of Cumberlands (TN) in 3:15 before besting Cooper for the second time on a 10-3 decision to capture third place.

The Blue Raiders wrestle later today in the MSC Championship slated to begin at 3pmCT.
