LWC Baseball set for weekend road series

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team hits the road to Montgomery, Alabama this weekend to take on No. 6-ranked Faulkner (Ala.) in a doubleheader on Friday, and Northwestern Ohio in a single game on Saturday. The doubleheader with Faulkner is slated to begin at 4pmCT on Friday, and the single contest with Northwestern Ohio is set to begin at NoonCT on Saturday.

The Blue Raiders (2-4) look to improve from last weekend's performance, where they went 1-2 on the road against NCAA DII opponent King (TN).



Derek Zavala leads the Blue Raiders from the plate this season after opening with a batting average of .435 on 23 at-bats. Zavala has tallied 10 hits, four runs scored, two doubles, and three RBI's in the Blue Raiders six games played. Dillan Saunders and Seth Price have each notched five hits this season, with Price having a team-high three doubles and Saunders leading with the lone home run for Lindsey Wilson.

Chandler Harnage comes into this weekend having pitched 13 innings, the most of any pitcher on the team. Harnage and Andy Rosales each have team-highs of eight strikeouts this season. Josh Barnett carries the lowest ERA for Lindsey Wilson at 2.45 while Jake McDaniel sits close behind with a 3.00 ERA.

No. 6-ranked Faulkner (6-1) enters this weekend after sweeping Shawnee State (Ohio) in a four-game series on Feb. 8-9.

For the Eagles, Eriq White, Jonathan Villa, and Isaac Phillips have all amassed a team-high nine hits this season. Shawn Ross has garnered up a team-high 11 RBI's from the plate, while White, Phillips, Sam Anthony, and Mario Moralez Jr. have added seven RBI's apiece. Faulkner has exploded for 82 runs this season while holding their opponents to just 26.

On the mound, Antonio Frias leads the Eagles with 18 strikeouts on 10-2/3 innings pitched. Frias has seen the most time from the bump for the Eagles while adding a 0.84 ERA. Heath Olive rolls into the weekend with 10 strikeouts and just three allowed hits on 4-2/3 innings pitched.

Northwestern Ohio (3-4) was swept in a four-game series against No. 8-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in their last outing on Feb. 7-8.

The Racers have seen high production on offense from Hunter James, who leads the way with 11 hits this season. James has also gathered up team-highs of four doubles, seven RBI's, and one home run in 23 plate appearances. Jeffre Castillo has added eight hits, two doubles, seven RBI's, and a home run on 22 at-bats for Northwestern Ohio.

Brett McEldowney and Drew Clavenna have been the go-to pitchers for the Racers. McEldowney leads the way with 9-2/3 innings pitched while adding nine strikeouts and a 4.66 ERA. Clavenna has thrown 9 innings garnering a team-high 11 strikeouts on a 4.0 ERA.

Live video and live stats will be available. First pitch on Friday for the doubleheader against Faulkner is slated for 4 p.m. CT, while first pitch on Saturday against Northwestern Ohio is set for Noon CT.
