Columbia City Council February meeting report

Mayor Pamela Hoots said it's good to start the new year off with a positive audit result at the regular called meeting of the Columbia City Council is Monday, February 3, 2020. The city budget, presented in the annual financial report from Campbell, Myers and Rutledge, is, in her words, "in excellent shape."

Gas service was also in the discussion at the February meeting. Columbia Gas Superintendent Jerry Watson and Mayor Hoots say they are within the 60 day grant application process working with the Lake Cumberland Area Development District on the goal to get coverage to 14 chicken houses in Adair County.

Watson also shared maps of Green Hills where gas expansion is set to begin this spring.



Activities Report for the month of January, 2020

- Christmas decorations taken down and stored.
- Replaced filters at pavilion, Little League Park, and basement of city hall.
- Several trees had weather damage: Rule Street, Appen Avenue, Little League Park, North Highway 55.
- Leaves being removed.
- Roof repaired at Trabue Russell House.
- Over 120 bags of trash picked up from city roadways.
- Several city signs straightened.
- Approximately 30 loads of brush were hauled.
- Met with USDA on application for gas expansion (and Lake Cumberland ADD).
- Working on final grant application for splash pad.
- Ceiling tiles replaced at city hall.
- Filters replaced at Trabue Russell House.
- Cleaned out boiler room.
- Cleaned the pavilion at the fairgrounds park.
- Elevator inspection completed.
- Sump pump repaired in basement.
- Trimmed trees at Little League Park, removed rotting tree.
- Started doing projects before starting the Little League season. Removed debris from gutters at the blue building, straightening fence, etc.
- Put new lighting in the city hall’s furnace room.
- Roof being repaired at Trabue Russell House.
- Cameras are being monitored at city park and Little League Park.
- We met with a representative from Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet.

The application is in - Columbia going for HGTV Hometown

Monday, February 3, 2020, the committee to nominate Columbia for the HGTV feature show 'Hometown Takeover' met its deadline to enter the city into the contest with great hopes to be selected. The show's hosts, Ben and Erin Napier, of the Home Town series on HGTV are scheduled to be in charge of the new program. To be considered, entrants had to have a population of less than 40,000; town should contain buildings with outstanding architecture that could be revitalized. Members of the committee are: Caleb Irvin with Nanwood Market, Alex Antle with Wild and Free, Elliott Burton from Golden Rule Realty, and Rhonda Loy, city clerk.
