LWC Basketball hosts Life in MSC action on Saturday

By Grace Blomstedt

The No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson women and the RV men's basketball teams are set to host Life (GA) on Saturday for Mid-South Conference action in Biggers Sports Center.

Tip-off is slated for 2pmCT for the women followed by the men's game at 4pmCT. The Lindsey Wilson women will wear their pink uniforms to show support and raise awareness for those in the fight against breast cancer. A portion of the gate money will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The LWC women (18-4, 7-2 MSC) return to action after picking up another MSC win over Cumberland (Tenn.) 68-40 at home on Thursday. A trio of Blue Raiders scored in double digits as Reagan Turner and DeAsia Outlaw each contributed 17 points. J'Nayah Hall added 13 points of her own while recording a game-high seven steals. Lindsey Wilson averages 76 points while only allowing its opponents 58.7. Turner leads the offensive effort averaging 18.5 points while DeAsia leads defensively with 7.3 rebounds and nearly two blocks per game.

Life (8-12, 1-8 MSC) is back on the court after losing to No. 2-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) 98-61 on Thursday. Tierra Lindsey scored a team-high 11 points while Cheyenne Daphney tallied a game-high eight rebounds. On the season, the Running Eagles are led by Sydni Tears and Lindsey with an average of 12.8 and 11.5 points paired with 6.6 and 6.3 rebounding averages, respectively.

This is the 11th meeting between the two programs as LWC holds an 8-2 all-time record. The matchup earlier this season resulted in an 86-71 victory for the Blue Raiders. Turner scored a game-high 24 points while Hall notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blue Raider men (15-8, 4-5 MSC) host Life after beating Cumberland 67-60 on Thursday. Four LWC players added double-digit points in the win, led by Reece Brooks with 18. Malik Hart scored 11 points while notching six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. The Blue Raiders now rank second in NAIA Division I in three-pointers made (253) with five players contributing 30 or more so far this season.

Life (10-12, 1-8 MSC) is hoping to break a six-game losing streak after falling to Campbellsville 80-70 on Thursday. Antwan Maxwell scored a team-high 15 points while Jeremy Joyner snagged a game-high 10 rebounds in the loss. Maxwell, a two-time MSC player of the week, leads the Running Eagles averaging nearly a double-double with 14 points and 8.9 rebounds.

This marks the 22nd matchup between the two programs and Life leads the all-time series 15-6. Back on Jan. 4 Life defeated the Blue Raiders 72-57 to notch its only MSC win so far this season. Brooks scored 17 points in the loss while Avery Edwards narrowly missed out on a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Maxwell scored 24 points and Joyner recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to secure the victory.
