LWC Men's Basketball defeats Cumberland 67-60

The (RV) Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 67-60 in Mid-South Conference action Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.

With the victory, Keith Adkins recorded his 400th career win as a head coach. Adkins has a career record of 400-251 and is now 31-23 at the helm of the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson (15-8, 4-5 MSC) had four players in double figures led by Reece Brooks who scored a game-high 18 points. Kameron Mack and Malik Hart each scored 11 points in the game. Hart connected on three of his six attempts from beyond the arc and is now 17-of-22 from three in his last six games. Payton Cundiff was the final Lindsey Wilson player in double figures with 10.



The two teams exchanged baskets to begin the game as the score was tied at four. Cumberland then scored 10 of the next 12 points to jump out in front 14-6 with 13:27 left in the half. The Blue Raiders responded cutting the lead to two at 14-12 with a quick 6-0 run. Cumberland then scored seven of the next nine points to take a 21-14 lead with under eight minutes left in the first half. Trailing 30-24, Lindsey Wilson ended the first half on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 32.

Brooks led the way for the Blue Raiders in the half with seven points while Hart added six. Cumberland shot 53.8 percent from the field in the opening half while Lindsey Wilson shot 48.1 percent. The Phoenix held a 17-10 edge in first half rebounds.

The Phoenix opened the second half scoring the first four points before a made three by Hart cut the deficit to 36-35. Lindsey Wilson took its first lead at 40-38 since the 19:16 mark of the first half after a quick 5-2 run. Cumberland responded with a basket tying the game at 40 with 14:43 to play.

The Blue Raiders then went on a 16-4 run that lasted over six minutes as Lindsey Wilson took a 56-44 lead. Cumberland went on a 12-5 run to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 61-56 with 3:01 to play. The Blue Raiders ended the game scoring six of the last eight points and going including going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe over the last 1:40.

Cumberland had three players score double-digit points led by Brandon Levier who scored a team-high 17 points. Jalen Duke and TJ Stargell were the other two Phoenix players in double figures with 13 points each.

The Blue Raiders are back in action when they host Life (Ga.) Saturday at 4pmCT at Biggers Sports Center.
