KSP: Fatal Collision on Veterans Memorial Hwy in Marion Co. By Sgt. Jason Morris Lebanon, KY - The Kentucky State Police investigated a fatal collision on Veterans Memorial Highway this morning at 1:41 a.m. ET inside Lebanon that closed the road for several hours. Preliminary investigations indicate that 29 year-old Richard Spalding of Loretto was operating a 2011 Ford F-250 traveling south on Veterans Memorial Highway. Spalding for an unknown reason crossed into the path of a 2000 International semi being operated by 62 year-old Jeffrey Canada of Milltown, IN. Spalding's vehicle struck the semi head on, which resulted in the roadway being closed for several hours. Spalding was found to be wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroners Office. Canada was not wearing his seat belt and was flown to University of Louisville Hospital by Air Evac with critical injuries. Sgt. Randall Honeycutt is investigating and was assisted by the Marion County Sheriffs Office, Marion County Fire, EMS and the Kentucky Department of Transportation.
