Applications sought for HGTV makeover show

From the office of Mayor Pamela Hoots

A new series is scheduled to be on HGTV entitled "Home Town Takeover." The show is to be filmed in a small town, where the six episode show is to be shown in 2021.

"We are planning on making application to this renovation competition," said Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots. Hoots went on to comment that they would like the public's input into the process. The City of Columbia is asking residents to submit photographs of areas you would like to be considered to tcollins@cityofcolumbiaky.com. You can also mail your comments on why you love Columbia to the same email.

The hosts, Ben and Erin Napier, of the Home Town series on HGTV are scheduled to be in charge of the new program.

Those that apply to this contest are to tell the unique aspects of their hometown; whether it be historical, or, a main street.

The town that is chosen will be rehabbed either in businesses, homes, parks, recreational areas, and more. "It is important to us to get the public's feedback as we enter this competition," said Hoots.

In order for towns to be considered, it must have a population of less than 40,000; town should contain buildings with outstanding architecture that could be revitalized; and, should include a Main Street area in need of a makeover.

"We want the community to be involved," said Mayor Hoots. "We welcome your comments on what you love about Columbia." Comments are to be submitted by Monday, January 27.

Members of the committee are: Caleb Irvin with Nanwood Market, Alex Antle with Wild and Free, Elliott Burton from Golden Rule Realty, and Rhonda Loy, city clerk.
