Seriously, what day is it?!

By Linda Waggener

I don't know about anyone else, but it's really hard for me to keep up with what day it is from Thanksgiving through Christmas and New Years with the holidays popping up and changing patterns of everyday activities.

Today is Thursday, January 2, the first back-to-work day of the new year 2020, and it feels like Monday after a Saturday/Sunday to me. It's enough to make a person feel right blue.

Retired Home Extension Agent Sue Stivers told me years ago that every day we should 'get up, get out, and get happy' - and I think it also included getting dressed up before getting out and about.

Her advice was even if you have to fake it, you'll soon be feeling back to normal -- or at least a little happier.

Strange that when we can't remember where we put the car keys an hour ago, memories from 30 years ago are accessible in every detail. It's great to remember the good times, but to be happy today we need to stay in the present.

According to happiness guru Gretchen Rubin, one solution is to find out who needs help and give it - and the bottom line, she says, is to make a plan and get out of the house.

Done and done. To heck with laundry and vacuuming! Happy New Year everyone!
