KY Cattlemen's Ground Beef hits $1M milestone By Sean Southard FRANKFORT, KY - Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles commended Kentucky Cattlemen's ground beef for marking $1 million in total farm gate sales since launching in March of last year. "Congratulations to Kentucky Cattlemen's Beef on the historic milestone of $1 million in farm gate sales," Commissioner Quarles said. "This project has been a dream of the Kentucky ag community for decades, and it is exciting to see this product fly off the shelves at Kroger stores throughout Kentucky and surrounding states. I applaud them for their success and wish them the best as this product generates additional income for Kentucky cattle producers." Kentucky Cattlemen's Ground Beef is fresh, natural beef produced by Kentucky farm families. The beef is ground and packaged by Creation Gardens of Louisville and distributed from Kroger's Louisville distribution center. The beef is a product of Beef Solutions, a limited liability company owned by the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association (KCA). "This is an exciting time for Kentucky Cattlemen and women in our state," said Dave Maples, KCA's executive director. "We appreciate the support from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, all of our partners, and of course, the thousands of customers who decided to buy local ground beef." "Beef Solutions is proud to work with Kentucky cattle producers and give them a marketing alternative for their cows," added Jeff Pettit, Beef Solutions' Chairman. "It is a win-win for producers and consumers in Kentucky." The ground beef product is the result of years of ongoing discussions among the KCA, the Kentucky Beef Council, the Kentucky Beef Network, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA), the Governor's Office of Agricultural Policy, Kroger, producers, and processors. From farm to table, Kentucky cattlemen from 111 farms in 44 counties have sold over 587,000 pounds of local ground beef. Kentucky is the leading beef cattle state east of the Mississippi River with more than 38,000 producers and more than 1 million beef cows.
