Beshear to make requesting government records easier Kentucky Press News Service Frankfort, KY - - Gov.-elect Andy Beshear announced Wednesday his administration and all executive branch state agencies will accept requests for public records via email. The move will make it easier for Kentuckians and the media to interact with their government. Kentuckians can also make requests in person or via mail or fax if they wish to do so. Earlier this year, the General Assembly passed Senate Bill 230, which paved the way for agencies to voluntarily accept open records requests via email, but not all state agencies have adopted the policy. "To be an effective, open and responsive state government, we must remove out-of-date and unnecessary hurdles that hinder those needing information from their government," Beshear said in a news release. "In this first step, we are signaling to Kentuckians that we are committed to making sure government is truly serving the people." Beshear said the change will be a priority for any remaining agencies to remedy as soon as possible once his term begins and that his administration will continue to work to make the process consistent. As attorney general, Beshear said he changed the Office of the Attorney General's open records request process to accept emails at kyoagor@ky.gov. This story was posted on 2019-12-06 05:52:06
