LWC Basketball hosts Simmons today at Biggers Sports Center

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team (receiving votes) and women's basketball team (ranked No. 15) return to Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY, tonight to battle Simmons College of Kentucky beginning at 4pmCT with the women's matchup followed by the men's matchup at 6pmCT.



The Blue Raider women's basketball team (8-1) had no problem in their last outing against Miami-Hamilton (Ohio), winning by a final score of 97-49 on November 22nd. Junior guard Reagan Turner led the way in scoring with 17 points, while senior forward DeAsia Outlaw stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, five steals, five rebounds, three blocks, and three assists.

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team is led in scoring this season by Turner who is averaging 16.7 points per game. Turner has recorded double-digit scoring performances in all nine games this season, and currently sits atop the Mid-South Conference in points per game. Junior guard Haeli Howard holds the team lead averaging 3.7 assists per game, with her season-high of five assists coming in three different games this season. Outlaw carries heavy weight on the defensive end of the floor for Lindsey Wilson, as she holds team leads in rebounds per game (8.1), steals per game (3.0), and blocks per game (2.8). Outlaw holds three individual top 15 rankings in the NAIA, ranking fourth with 26 total blocks, fifth averaging 2.8 blocks per game, and 11th with her 27 total steals.

The Simmons women's basketball team (1-6) fell short on the road to Cumberlands (Ky.) 73-43 on November 23rd. The Falcons have allowed 100 or more points in three of their six losses, two of which came against Mid-South Conference members Campbellsville (Ky.) and Pikeville (Ky.). The Falcons list seven players on their roster, which includes two juniors, two sophomore, and three freshmen. Simmons is coached by head coach Anthony Branch.

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team (8-3) tasted defeat at the hands of Faulkner (Ala.) by a final score of 97-68 in the championship game of the Battle at the Beach Tournament. Senior point guard Reece Brooks led the way in scoring with 23 points, while senior forward Kameron Mack chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds and senior forward Matthew Eldridge added 10 points and six rebounds. As a team, the Blue Raiders sit in the NAIA top 10 in five statistical categories, which include ranking third in total three-pointers made (123), sixth in total scoring (983), seventh in total assists (191), ninth in three-pointers per game (11.1), and 10th in total offensive rebounds (432).

This season, Brooks has served as the anchor for the Blue Raiders as he holds team leads in points per game (19.46), assists per game (5.5), and steals per game (1.2). Brooks tallied 20+ points in all three games at the Battle at the Beach Tournament, and currently ranks third in the NAIA in total assists (61) and fifth in total scoring (214). Senior forward Malik Hart carries the team lead averaging 6.6 rebounds per game, while sophomore forward Djibril Diagne averages a team-high one block per game.

The Simmons men's basketball team (2-7) fell short in their last game against Cumberlands by a final score of 74-67. Jonathon Henry led the team with 24 points while chipping in five rebounds. Montrell Little notched 18 points and seven rebounds. The Falcons list 10 players on their roster, including four freshmen, one sophomore, one junior, and four seniors. Jerry Eaves serves as the head coach for the Simmons men's basketball team.
