LWC Wrestling competes at Lindenwood Open By Christopher Coombs St. Charles, MO - The No. 3 ranked Lindsey Wilson Wrestling team competed at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday. Brandon Reed pinned his first two opponents of the day. He pinned Max Darrah of Maryville in 6:09 and then took down Jacob Stoneberger in 1:25 of the first period. Reed continued his winning way with a 13-5 major decision victory over Jose Diaz and would then advance to the championship match after a forfeit victory. Reed would lose his first match of the season on a hard-fought 15-8 decision loss to Zach Elam of NCAA DI Missouri. Preston Mattingly won by decision over Adam Bender of Kentucky Wesleyan 8-1 and then took down Austin Weaver of Joliet Junior College on an 8-1 decision. In the quarterfinals. Mattingly won by a fall over Tommy Dineen of Southern Illinois Edwardsville, doing so in 5:25. Aden Reeves of Iowa State pushed Mattingly to the consolation bracket on an 11-7 decision. After advancing another round via a medical forfeit he would finish in fourth place with an 11-8 decision loss to Dalen Moore of North East Oklahoma. Sam Bacon finished the open with a 3-2 record as he picked up two pinfalls and one major decision victories on the day. After falling to the consolation bracket he pinned Devin West of MacMurry in 2:53 and then pinned Malik Harvey of Spartanburg in 2:19. He followed that performance with a 9-1 major decision victory over Logan Farrell of Central Oklahoma before bowing out of the tournament with his second loss of the day. Joe Koontz opened his day with two victories as he defeated Mikael Failor of Ellsworth CC on a 6-1 decision before pinning Jake Reicin of Illinois at 2:21. In the quarterfinals Koontz lost on a close 4-2 decision to Cooper Siebrecht of Minnesota State Mankato. It would be his last match of the day. Carlos Figueroa won in dominating fashion over Christopher York of Missouri Valley with an 18-2 technical fall to start his day. He then fell to the consolation bracket in his next match before winning on a 13-2 decision over Lawrence Malala. His day came to a close with his second loss of the day during his next match.
