Salvation Army Angel Tree Program is seeking donations

By Debbie Cowan

Dear Adair County Community: The Adair County Service Unit of The Salvation Army will once again be providing the Angel Tree Christmas assistance program for our community. This program provides Christmas gifts to qualifying Adair County children ages birth to sixteen and is made possible through donations and community support.

The program will be conducted in a different manner this year than in the past and we need help from the community. We are no longer requesting that individuals adopt a specific Angel and we will not provide paper angels containing information for one child. Instead we are planning an event where qualifying families will be able to visit the Angel Tree Shop and select gifts for their child(ren).

To make this project successful, we are requesting that your church/organization/group consider providing items for the Angel Tree Shop.

These items will be organized and parents of children that are eligible for the program will be able to come and "shop" these items to select Christmas gifts for their children. Parents will be assisted one-on-one by volunteers who will guide them through the Angel Tree Shop.

To address basic needs and ensure equity among recipients, we have developed a list of items that we want to offer to families to select from:
  • Clothes: Underwear, socks, sweat shirts, pajamas - Sizes: toddler - adult

  • Hygiene Products: Toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, body wash

  • Toys: Basketball, soccer ball, football, dolls, Barbie dolls, Legos, board games, tiny cars, baby toy
  • Gift Items (for older kids): Playing cards, art supplies, purse, wallet, earbuds, Cologne/perfume

  • Supplies: Christmas wrapping paper, tape, gift bags, tissue paper

We need large amounts of these items and they should be delivered to Trinity Church Fellowship Hall, Campbellsville Road, on December 12, 2019, from 8amCT to NoonCT.

If you would be willing to donate items to this worthy project, please contact 270-250-5299 or 270-384-6050 as soon as possible to discuss your contribution. We would also gladly accept cash donations for the program. Checks should be made to Salvation Army Angel Tree and mailed to PO Box 1085, Columbia, KY 42728.

In Christ's love,
The Adair County Service Unit
The Salvation Army
