Commentary: Be grateful for local investment

By Victoria Pike

I just do not understand why folks have to be so negative in their comments. If a company is willing to put their money to work in our community it should be welcomed by us. It may not be what everybody wants but at least they are willing to come into our town and spend their money.

Yes, we would all like to have these other types of restaurants or businesses but good grief the world wasn't made in a day. Just look back the last 10 years. We have a whole new business area in Adair County. We have a new interchange with lighting. We have several new and existing businesses that have been willing to build new buildings here to upgrade their businesses. We have attracted others such as Whayne Supply, Walmart, Black Stallion Steakhouse, Dollar Tree, Goodwill, Sleep Inn, Duo-County, Pyles, Brown and Brown Ins., Dollar Stores, G & G Mahindra, Kwik Lube, Cumberland Family Medical, Taylor County Hospital Branch for many tests and services that would require a trip to Taylor County 25 miles away. Also, 1 new bank location and one to come.

These things don't happen overnight and require millions of dollars in investment in our community. So like my momma always told me, if you can't say something nice just don't say anything.

I would be ashamed for the new restaurant to read that our town doesn't appreciate them even before they get their doors open. Gosh folks, I can remember when 4 houses were in my neighborhood. Look at it now.

These businesses and many more are now conveniently located in easily accessed areas of the county which encourages folks to come here to live, visit, or shop. We see new buildings going up everyday not only in the Burkesville Road Interchange but on HWY 55 N. with the new station being built on that end of town by young local business folks willing to put their money to work in Adair County. All I ask is that we think before we speak.

We can't move from a small rural community to the likes of a Somerset KY overnight.
