WWII veteran Bro. Chester Bottoms, 83

Bro. Chester Bottoms, 83, Knifley Road, Columbia, KY, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at 10:30 p.m. at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Bro. Erwin Ray, Bro. Hugh Withers, and George Rice officiating. Masonic Services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, with Casey Creek Lodge 536 in charge.


Bro. Bottoms was the son of the late Samson F. And Goldie Mae Harrison Bottoms of Knifley.

He has ministered in several Christian Churches around Adair County for over 40 years. He has conducted many revivals, weddings and funerals. He was a member of the Egypt Christian Church, Casey Creek Lodge 536, and a U.S. Army Veteran of Wrold War II. He was retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Della Moss Bottoms, in April 2001.

He is survived by the following:
  • Four sons: Larry and his wife, Sharon Bottoms, Nevada; Danny and his wife Virginia Bottoms, Campbellsville; Samuel Bottoms, Franklin, TN; Michael and his wife Cheryl, Columbia
  • Two daughters: Barbara and her husband Richard Banks, Columbia, KY; and Sandra and her husband Jeter Coffey, Russell Springs
  • Two sisters: Florine Willis, Knifley, and Edith Patton, Sunman, IN
  • and Eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery with military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Grissom Funeral Home.
