New word: hojewbeba By Linda Waggener I'm learning a new language -- toddler. Our soon-to-be-two-year-old grandson, Graham, has a good grasp of the language and it only takes a few minutes with him to begin to understand. For instance, the word hojewbeba, combined with body language of arms stretched up, eyes beseeching, means hold you Mema. Only, with a stuffed up nose, as he had when he and I were together on the day of his baby brother Evans birth, it came out hold you beba, or, in a word, hojewbeba. Thats all he has to say to melt my heart and get me to swing him up into my arms, ready for whatever his next assignment might be. Baby Evan got to come home from the hospital for his two-week birthday Saturday and we were all silly with excitement and celebrating, but also careful not to forget our places with Graham. He was a prince for the most part with baby brother. Only once did he and I have any strain -- I was holding Evan when Graham reached up to me and said, hojewmema (no stuffy nose this time). I wasn't quite quick enough on the draw so Graham pointed to the chair beside me and said, sit down Mema. I did so. He pointed to the floor and said, sit down baby brother. I laughed. Graham didn't. I have a feeling that when I'm in his presence later this week he will have more to teach me. This story was posted on 2003-06-30 21:55:27
