Increasing clouds today, high 64, rainy weekend

It's currently 42F at the Adair County Mesonet station. Expect Increasing clouds today, with a high near 64F, light east wind, and a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after 4pm.

Widespread rain, heavy at times, will overspread South Central Kentucky from south to north after Midnight tonight, and bring a chance of a thunderstorm as the front moves in. The overnight low will be around 53F. East wind 5 to 9 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%.

On Saturday, rains will likely taper off by mid-morning, before returning in the afternoon. Expect a high near 70F.

Showers remain likely Saturday night, with the possibility of a thunderstorm developing, and an overnight low around 51F.

Rainfall totals across the region likely will range from 1 to 3 inches over the weekend, with a few spots possibly seeing higher amounts. Given the recent dry spell, and the relatively steady rate of rains expected, the ground should be able to soak up the Friday/Saturday morning rains easily. Heavier bands of rain later Saturday could cause some ponding on area roadways. Many rivers across the region are still at or below normal levels, so they should be able to handle the extra water coming in.

Rains should taper off before 7am on Sunday, leaving mostly cloudy skies and a high of 64F.
