CPE: Data Center to inform higher education progress

By Sue Patrick

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) announces the public launch of a comprehensive CPE Data Center to help inform higher education progress.

Located at cpe.ky.gov/data, the data center features 17 interactive tools that track campus and state progress on key metrics. Performance on the metrics will help guide policy decisions toward CPE's goal to have 60 percent of Kentuckians with a quality degree or credential by the year 2030.

"Connecting policymakers and our partners to these dashboards will drive strategic, data-driven decision-making to support efforts to improve enrollment, retention and graduation outcomes across all student demographics, resulting in a more highly skilled workforce for Kentucky," said CPE President Aaron Thompson.

The dashboards cover a wide range of higher education metrics, including:

  • Academic momentum: the effect of enrollment intensity on graduation rates
  • Academic program inventory
  • Degrees and credentials awarded
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion enrollment, retention and graduation rates
  • Dual credit student counts, hours earned and by location
  • Employment outcomes (links to KYSTATS)
  • Enrollment by fall semesters
  • Enrollment and graduate counts by majors
  • Financial aid by institution
  • Financial aid by sector
  • Financial aid by state
  • Graduation rates
  • High school performance (links to KYSTATS)
  • Project Graduate enrollment, degrees and completions
  • First-to-second year retention rates
  • Teacher preparation (links to KYSTATS)
  • Workforce needs (links to KYSTATS)
  • Website visitors can filter summative data by campus, sector, gender, underrepresented minority status, race, income status and by county or state of origin, among other specific fields tailored to individual dashboards.
"Our colleges and universities have done tremendous work in collecting and sharing campus assessment data with the CPE. Our new data center disseminates this information through interactive reports, which can be tailored to address the critical policy questions of Kentucky leaders," said CPE's David Mahan, associate vice president, data and advanced analytics.
