LWC Women's Soccer Travels to Georgia Gwinnett on Friday By Brady Budke The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team returns to action tomorrow to take on No. 16-ranked Georgia Gwinnett in a top 25 battle at the Grizzly Soccer Complex in Lawrenceville, Georgia at 6pmCT. The Blue Raiders women's soccer team (9-2-1, 5-0-0 MSC) returns to the field after a 3-2 double-overtime victory over No. 20-ranked Cumberland (TN) in a Mid-South Conference battle on Tuesday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. Sophomore forward Sina Cavelti serves as the anchor for the Lindsey Wilson offense, leading the team with 10 goals, 24 points, 53 total shots, and 26 shots on goal. Cavelti currently averages 2.0 points per game, which ranks first in the Mid-South Conference. Senior midfielder Emilie Liljered has notched eight goals and two assists this season and sits close behind Cavelti with 18 points. Sophomore midfielder Thea Birgerud holds the team lead with six assists and has recorded a goal and an assist in the last two matches. On defense, Junior goalkeeper Eveljn Frigotto has 54 saves on the season, which sits fifth-best in the Mid-South Conference. The Georgia Gwinnett women's soccer team (10-4-1) returns to action after defeating Life (Ga.) 4-0 at home on Monday night. Sophomore defender Joy Mertzig has a team-high 13 goals and 28 points this season. As a Freshman last season, Mertzig recorded an assist in the 2-1 regular season victory over Lindsey Wilson, while also notching a goal in the 2-1 defeat to the Blue Raiders in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. Freshman midfielder Jenny Stadin leads the Grizzlies with five assists, 50 shots, and 21 shots on goal. In Georgia Gwinnett's last match against Life, Stadin recorded a goal and an assist while also tallying a season-high in shots (11) and shots on goal (5).
