Lt Governor Hampton celebrates 200th school visit By Ruth LeMaster Frankfort, KY - Yesterday, KY Lieutenant Governor Jenean Hampton visited Morgan County High School, marking her 200th unique school visit as Lieutenant Governor. She spent time with students participating in Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG), an immersive program which prepares students for employment right out of high school. JAG also promotes student leadership, teaches basics of personal interaction, and helps students overcome challenges they may face outside of the classroom. Hampton welcomed the opportunity to discuss a wide range of career opportunities including manufacturing, engineering, military and public service. Earlier in the day, she held similar discussions with JAG students at Johnson County Middle School and Johnson County Central High School. Lt. Governor Hampton also recounted details of her long, diverse career, including working through college. "Shortly after the 2015 election, requests flooded in from Kentucky schools to share my personal story with kids of all ages," she said. "Many teachers recognized the value of students hearing from someone who rose above poverty, bullying and other adverse conditions." Lt. Governor Hampton believes every adult has an inspirational life story that she encourages them to share with youth. "None of us were overnight successes, and we all experienced speed bumps of some sort. How we handle setbacks often reveals more of our character than our successes." Lt. Governor Hampton describes school visits as one of the most rewarding activities of her term. She thanks all the students, teachers, principals and other educators who hosted her over the past four years. This story was posted on 2019-10-17 14:40:29
