LWC Men's Basketball to play Iowa in an exhibition on Nov 4

By Chris Wells

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team travels to Iowa for an exhibition against the NCAA Division I Hawkeyes on November 4 in Iowa City, Iowa.

The exhibition is the first for the men's basketball team against an NCAA Division I program since the Blue Raiders played Western Kentucky during the 2015-16 season.

Tip-off for the Lindsey Wilson and Iowa matchup is slated for 7pmCT at Carver Hawkeye Arena, 1 Elliott Dr, Iowa City, IA.

"The opportunity to play an exhibition game against a team at the highest level of college basketball isn't something that happens all of the time," Lindsey Wilson men's basketball coach Keith Adkins said. "For a lot of reasons, these types of games are very valuable to NAIA and NCAA Division II programs. We will definitely benefit from the opportunity to play against a team at this level and in that type of environment.

"I have been working on this game for a few years now," Adkins added. "My relationship with Coach McCaffery goes all the way back to the fall of 1988. He was an assistant coach at Notre Dame when I played there as a freshman. I have stayed in touch with him over the years and I can't say enough about the impact he has had on my coaching career. I am very appreciative to him and the University of Iowa for this incredible opportunity."

Lindsey Wilson posted a 16-15 record in 2018-19 in Adkins' first year at the helm of the Blue Raider program. Lindsey Wilson returns all Mid-South Conference guard Kel Stotts along with Matthew Eldridge and Payton Cundiff from last season's team. The trio combined for more than 39-percent of the Blue Raiders' scoring last season.

Jordan Hamlette also returns after sitting out last season due to injury along with a talented recruiting class.

Iowa finished 23-12 last season falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Tennessee in overtime. The Hawkeyes return all Big 10 performer Jordan Bohannon and all Big 10 freshman team member Joe Wieskamp from last season's team.

Lindsey Wilson has played a number of NCAA programs over the last two decades. In addition to Western Kentucky, Lindsey Wilson has played Samford, Kentucky Wesleyan, Mississippi State, Tennessee State, Kentucky and Louisville in exhibition games in its recent history.

Media coverage for the Lindsey Wilson and Iowa matchup will be announced closer to the date of the game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pmCT at Carver Hawkeye Arena.
