Eltha Feese, mother of large family she raised as a widow, dies at age 80

Eltha Feese, 80, Summit Manor Nursing Home, Columbia, KY, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 2:10 p.m. at Westlake Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Feese is remembered for the exemplary success she had, as a widow, in raising a large family of 11 children. Her husband, Joseph Estill Feese, died June 19, 1957. She leaves 49 living descendants.

Visitation is after 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia.


Mrs. Feese was the daughter of the late Melvin and Hallie Burton Sinclair.

She is survived by the following:
  • Four sons, Bobby Feese and his wife, Ann, Knoxville, TN; Dicky Feese and his wife, Mary Lou, Edmonton, KY; Danny Feese and his wife, Tammy, and Joe Feese and his wife, Margaret, all of Columbia.
  • Seven daughters, Brenda Feese, Louisville; Jo Ann Curry and her husband, Lewis, Columbia; Sue Feese, Columbia; Alice Burton and her husband, Wayne, Columbia; Fay Garrett and her husband, Donnie, Edmonton, KY; Connie Edmonds, and her husband James, Columbia; and Debbie Martin, and her husband Craig, Louisville, KY.
  • One sister, Ida Fuqua of Louisville, KY.
  • Nineteen grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Feese was a member of the Plum Point Baptist Church and a homemaker.

The funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, KY, with the Rev. Cliff Burris and Rev. Lewis Haynes officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.
