ACHD looks at SWOT analysis in substance abuse fight By Linda Waggener Health Education Director Tracy Aaron from Lake Cumberland District Health Department was the presenter at the September WATCH Coalition meeting to help agency leaders in attendance look at where Adair County stands in the fight against illegal drug abuse. The SWOT analysis from the response plan conducted at the meeting follows: Strengths - positive points Narcan availability - Rhonda Akin, RN, nursing supervisor, is able to provide FREE Narcan samples at the Adair Health Department on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays after 3pmCT to any member of public. Walk-ins are welcome to have the one-on-one time for coaching and the free sample. Continued strengths in Adair County: The WATCH/ASAP Coalition - Interagency communications Law Enforcement Drug Court School Resource Officers Strong Faith Based Community Recovery opportunities - Celebrate Recovery Child Fatality Review Education in Public Schools and Lindsey Wilson College Hospital SOS (KY Statewide Opioid Stewardship Media willing to help with community education Health Fair education/other education opportunities Weaknesses - Access to treatment/recovery - transportation/in patient facilities Education throughout the community Stigma - reluctance to speak out Lack of business community involvement in coalition Compassion fatigue Limited Workforce Silo Efforts - not knowing what others are doing Child Fatality Review Lack of Drug Free Community grant money Threats- Stigma of Narcan availability keeps people from getting it Fear of substance use/abuse Early childhood issues/problems at schools This story was posted on 2019-09-17 06:09:25
