ACSO: Foot pursuit ends with drug and weapon charges

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

Wednesday morning at 2:46amCT, Adair County Deputy Joey Keith was dispatched to the 2000 block of KY South 55. The original complaint was that someone was ringing doorbells of multiple residences in that area.

Upon Deputy Keith's arrival in the area, he saw a male subject walking and stopped to check him as he was in the area of complaint. When Keith exited his vehicle and identified himself, the male subject fled. A foot pursuit led across the roadway into a nearby field, where Deputy Keith observed the suspect take off and throw a backpack.

Deputy Keith was eventually able to bring pursuit to an end by deploying his taser.

The suspect was then taken into custody and identified as Adrian Morales, 32, of Columbia.

After Morales was secured, with the assistance of Columbia Police Officers Adam Cravens and Jamie Cole, a search of the overgrown field was conducted in attempts to locate the backpack. They were able to recover the backpack and inside was a loaded 40-caliber Glock handgun.

Morales was lodged by Deputy Keith in the Adair County Regional Jail on charges of:
  • 1- Wanton Endangerment of a police officer
  • 2- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • 3- Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine
  • 4- Possession of Stolen property
  • 5- Fleeing and Evading Police
  • 6- Public Intoxication
The case is being continued by the Adair County Sheriff's Office.
